bio
I am a designer with a distinctive design aesthetic. I celebrate femininity through my use of vintage details and a touch of wit and whimsy. I believe clothes that make women feel sexy and beautiful are always in fashion. My design style is not timid by any means and is definitely more Marilyn Monroe than Jackie O’. I am a fan of acid colors and bold prints and textures, but I don't think everything has to shock. I also incorporate fine details and delicacies, craftsmanship and exquisite materials into all my creations. Lace, chiffon, tulle, voile, charmeuse and luxe blended jerseys are my chosen fabrics. The most important aspect for me when designing is that I create something special, a “favorite thing” or a unique item to be cherished.I was born in Bolinas Ca, a liberated and creative bohemian community, and was fortunate enough to spend much of my youth traveling. At 18, I moved to London. London was mind-blowing because it was so stimulating and exciting. It was there that I developed my love for irreverent design. I soon began attending the internationally renowned Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, where the air was buzzing with creativity and innovation. During my time in Europe, I did an apprenticeship with Philip Treacy and also worked with Alexander McQueen in both London and in Paris while he was the head of Givenchy. The old world of French Haute Couture that still exists within the ateliers of Givenchy and Dior is a dying art, but it is magnificent. My time at Givenchy was a precious experience, and a definitive period in my design career. When I left London, I moved to New York where I passed my time as an intern for Carolina Herrera while looking for my first big NYC gig. I soon found a job with a kindred spirit in Betsey Johnson. It was with Betsey that I learned the business side of the fashion industry and my time there was still creative and really fun. After a few exhilarating years in New York I moved to Los Angeles to design for Jennifer Nicholson. Designing for Jennifer was challenging and like a dream because it was wonderfully extravagant. We designed made-to-order red carpet gowns as well as seasonal ready to wear collections which we showed in Bryant Park in NY. Although I love designing ready to wear collections, It soon became clear that I had a passion for designing lingerie. I left Jennifer Nicholson and began a quest to design intimate apparel. It was not long before Carol Malony and I found each other. I became the creative director of her two brands as well as director of her private label business with brands including Victoria’s Secret. This was like a match made in heaven. After the better half of a decade with Carol I left to pursue new challenges.Designing lingerie and gowns remains my passion. The two are very similar in my opinion. Both celebrate exaggerated femininity. Lace, bows, silk, feathers, delicate details, high glamour, cheeky flourishes; these are the things that I love and the things that define me as a designer.
